WARNING
All race suits are not the same.
|
We are the number one supplier of race suits in the performance industry. In doing so, we
have gathered a gigantic following of long time friends, loyal customers and many new
customers each and every year. Safety has been and continues to be our number one
concern for our customers in selling quality, major brand name products and we continue
this today. In today's world there are a number of race suits, which are mostly manufactured
in foreign countries and made with materials which we feel in our opinion may not present
the safety factor you may be looking for. Some of these suits may also be questionable in
the construction of these suits which is also very important factor in safety. These suits are
not made of NOMEX material which is and continues to be the industry standard for today's quality in major brand name, multi layer race suits.
Generally, you will find these brand x
suits as we choose to call them, in just a few basic colors of black, red or blue and generally
very plain or for the most, a fairly basic style. The materials used in these suits are generally PROBAN, BANOX, FRC or perhaps a few other chemically treated materials. To take this
just a little further, we are seeing a few brands now showing up with a proban shell with a
nomex liner. This is still a cheap method of saving the manufacturer money, however this still does not nearly present the safety factor of a full nomex race suit and remember, safety is the main concern. Please do understand, there are places for Proban, Banox, FRC and some of these other materials to be used, but in our opinion, NOMEX offers permanent fire retardency
and is the safest by far and used by most all quality, major brand name race suit
manufacturers in multi layer race suits.
-
Since these materials for the most part are chemically treated cotton or a cotton blend, it is very possible the chemical treatment can be washed out and in fact does wash out.
-
Being basically a cotton race suit, shrinkage is generally also thought of as a problem not to mention cotton does not wear well for this use as you can imagine.
-
Multi layer suits made from these materials are extremely heavy and hot due to the
thickness of these materials needed just to pas the very minimum requirements of the
SFI standards.
-
Manufacturing methods of a race suit is extremely important. Many of these brand x
suits may lack in quality construction and therefore present additional and questionable
safety risks.
-
Yes, these suits are generally less expensive, but why would they not be for a cotton suit?
-
Generally, there may be a play on words to make you believe these are a quality race suit
in comparison to the big name, multi layer nomex race suits. They will say these have nomex
cuffs and maybe zippers or nomex thread. This may be true, but not the actual materials used
for the suit itself is nomex material.
-
Is there a place for these brand x materials to be used? Yes. Generally they may be used in
the electrical industry or other industries for precautionary measures.
-
If the race suit does not say the entire suit is Nomex or Nomex/kevlar, in our option,
stay away. NOMEX will never loose it protective properties regardless of washings.
